Diakonia has been helping individuals and families in Worcester County and on the Lower Shore by providing shelter, food, clothing and the resources to rebuild their lives. Diakonia is dedicated to building a foundation for those in crisis or who are homeless while maintaining their dignity and respect, providing hope and assistance and helping them change the direction of their lives, one step at a time.

Volunteers provide support for our operations in a variety of ways.  Volunteering with Diakonia is a way to use your knowledge, skills and talents to give back to the community and to change lives, including your own.

Among the many services volunteers provide at Diakonia are:
  • Answering the telephone
  • Operating and working in the thrift shop
  • Sorting and storing donations
  • Grant writing
  • Cleaning
  • Distributing food from the food pantry
  • Transporting residents to appointments
  • Entering data into our donor management database
  • Repairs and maintenance to our facilities
  • Resume writing
  • Web site maintenance
  • Newsletter writing
  • Helping organize fundraising events
  • Many other services

Some of the volunteer services, such as data entry and grant writing, allow you to work from home.
